Synttäriswappi - Birthday Swap

Melkein vuosi edellisestä blogipostauksesta... pitäisi kai päivitellä hieman useammin. ;)

Otin osaa vuodenmittaiseen synttäriswappiin ja koska synttärini olivat tuossa pari päivää sitten, voin jo esitellä saamaani satoa. Ihan kaikki paketit eivät ehtineet synttäreille, saati tulleet lokakuun aikana, mutta päivittelen tähän loppuun sitten kun niitä vielä saapuu.

It's almost been a year since I last posted... maybe I should try doing that a tiny bit more often. ;)

I took part in a birthday swap and because said date has just passed, I thought I'd show you what I got. Not all the packages arrived on time, so I'll be updating this post once they do.

Lamppujen prototyyppejä - Some Lamp Prototypes

Tilasin eBaystä isot pussilliset värillisiä kukkahelmiä (joista tässä tosin vain valkoisia). Väkertelin niistä hieman pöytävalaisimia ihan vain pohtiakseni mitä niistä saisi aikaiseksi. Hienoja kattokruunuja olen myös nähnyt näistä tehtävän eli sitä voisi kokeilla ehkä seuraavaksi. Helmiä on riittävästi, yhteensä noin 1400 kpl!

I ordered some flower beads from eBay and tried making a couple of lamps. I've seen chandeliers made out of these, so I thought I'd try that next. I should have enough beads at least, I've got about 1400 of them...! X'D

Toinen lampuista on hieman vino, mutta suoristin sen äsken kun liima ei ollut vielä ehtinyt kuivua.
The other one's a little crooked, but I straightened it out a moment ago since the glue hadn't dried yet.

This be my third muse Sawa. The eyes don't fit the sockets properly, so I may have to reconsider using another pair instead. Evidently the DZ Annie head is a bit asymmetrical around the eyes, which makes the whole eye fitting thing more complicated...

Tää on mun kolmas muusini Sawa. Sen simmut ei mahdu kuoppiinsa kunnolla ni täytynee luultavasti käyttää jotain toista paria. Nähtävästi DZ Annie -pää on epäsymmetrinen tosta silmien tienoilta, joten tää koko silmäbisnes on ihan himpun verran haastavampaa...

Joulukuusipäivitys! - Christmas Tree Update!

Lisäsin listaan tämän vuoden joulupuun, jota minun ei siis ollut alunperin tarkoitus koristella tänä vuonna koska muutto...
I added this year's Christmas tree onto my list.
I wasn't going to decorate it this year because I'm moving in just a couple of days, but see how that turned out... :'D

I thought since I haven't posted about my dolls for a while (it's mostly been props and dollhouse stuff), I'd do this introduction post thing. It's pretty long, so I'll put it behind a link.

Tuli mieleen, että kun oon nyt postaillut tavarapainotteisesti viime aikoina, niin vois olla ihan jees esitellä nukkekaartia pitkästä aikaa. Postauksesta tulee pitkä, joten sen loppuosa on linkin takana.

Pottery Time!

Yep, so here they are. They turned out better than I expected. I know that the people who are participating in the Christmas Calendar Swap thing are probably wondering if I'll be putting any of these in... The answer is: Nope!

...OK, I lied. Maybe. Some of these may be going out to new homes this November. But I'm not telling which ones. And the majority of the items will be something else. :D

Progress Report - Planning a House

This is the current draft. I still haven't measured everything and I have to miss class (it's a workshop type of thing for making doll houses) next week, so actually getting started is still going to take a while... The plan is that it's going to sit on top / between some tree branches like a proper tree house. In case you can't read my scribbles, it's going to be in scale with Ernest (more or less, he's kinda not in any scale) or pukipuki (~11cm tall). Room height around 16cm.

Progress Report - Pottery Time!

Ceramics classes have started again. The first batch (5 hrs worth) looks kinda crappy, but oh well... gotta start somewhere. :D

I threw the small stuff off the hump and the bigger thing at the back is the leftover clay at the end of class. It's usually most moist and difficult (with my lacking skills) to work with, so it's a bit lopsided. :'D The other bigger round thing is a giant lingonberry I did during the very first class some weeks back, just to get reacquainted with clay.

Miniature Ceramics

Almost forgot to post these. The last batch done. There won't be more until maybe in September.

Oh and yay, I managed to sell some of these. Which was nice.

Progress Report - The Last Batch

Soon going to run out of ceramics classes for the spring so these were the last little pots and bottles for now.
The one at the back was the last one I threw and the clay was so wet it was wobbling all over. I had a fit of giggles as I was making it since it looked so ridiculous... Also, the one with the uneven top turned upside down just as I was placing it on the board. I tried to make the top into a flower, but it still looks kinda crappy. Oh well. :D

Progress Report - More Minipottery

5 hours worth of minis. Once they're dry, they'll go into the kiln. Only 3 more weeks of ceramics classes left. Boohoo. I'm planning to go again when they start again in the autumn. :3

Pooh...

Well, this is certainly frustrating. I can't seem to get Pope's faceup right (I've tried twice. Once with just the open-eyed plate and now with both). This time the sleeping face is a little better, but now that I look at either of them, I sort of feel like going in a completely different direction...

To add to my frustration, I couldn't find the white wig (I found one, but it's too small). Also, I desperately need new brushes. It's especially annoying to try to make thin and clean lines in this scale when the bristles are already bending... Anyway, I'll probably take this off again at some point when I can afford new brushes and have more time. Maybe after the move.

So yeah, not all that happy with these. I did manage to select a couple that I'm going to send for the Valentine's swap, but yeah... not happy. I was most disappointed that it happened to be one of my favourites that the teacher accidentally broke when I was short on time and she was helping me with the glazes. It's the green fat one in the front. You can see the top looks pretty awful. :(

There are only 4 weeks left. I threw some more mini jars, cups and pots today so I'll have time to make those, and maybe a tiny bit more next time. After that, it's just glazing and the classes are over. I'll miss it. ;_; I'm going to go again as soon as they're offering more courses. I was only just starting to get the hang of throwing miniatures. X'D

Khan's chair.

So, here's the chair I've been working on since forever, finally. I also made a coffee table type thing, but there was not enough space in the cabinet for both. I even had to use a box to lift the chair a bit because Khan's legs wouldn't have fitted in otherwise. Maybe some day I'll have somewhere to put this stuff properly, but this will have to do for now.

Progress Report - Oh dear...

I managed to get everything ready for the kiln yesterday but it came pretty close so I had to hurry... I'm afraid the miniature vases, cups and bottles will end up looking crappy because of this. I feel I could have done so much better had I had more time, but I didn't want to wait until next week since there are people still waiting for their Valentine's swap stuff and I feel really bad about it. Then again, I may end up feeling even worse once they're done and don't look very good. I'd like to apologize already beforehand...

I think next time I'm going to press some decorations onto stuff while still soft and just add oxides and a clear glaze. That usually looks all right and takes much less time to do. Hindsight 20/20.

Progress Report - Eyes from Ebay, Ceramics on Hold

I sold Pope's eyes a little while back and I've now ordered him a new pair. They're quite different from the last. It will be interesting to see how they fit. I haven't done a lot of doll-related stuff lately, but I'm slowly working on some miniature pottery. Unfortunately the school I've been going to is currently off for a week, so my projects are further delayed. Apparently it also takes quite a bit of time to apply glazing onto tiny tiny vases, bottles and cups... Maybe I'll they'll finally be ready for the kiln next Monday.
